Chickpeas or garbanzo beans are the highest consumed legume worldwide. They are an ideal product to market towards vegetarians, vegans, and the health-conscious people. We grow and supply garbanzos that meet the highest quality standards.
- Chickpeas are high in protein, folate, magnesium, protassium and iron and contain very little fat and no cholesterol. They are also high in fiber and offer compounds such as phytochemicals and isoflavones that can prevent chronic diseases. Fibre-rich foods like chickpeas are often more filling than other foods, helping to keep you satisfied until your next meal. Soluble fiber helps lower blood cholesterol levels, while insoluble fiber helps with digestion as well as maintaining regular bowel movements. Most of the carbohydrates are complex, which prevents blood sugar from rising quickly after a meal (low glycemic). This product is gluten-free and can be eaten by people with celiac disease.
- Chickpeas are used in salads, cooked in stews, ground into a flour called gram flour (besan), ground and shaped in balls and fried as falafel, cooked and ground into a paste called hummus, or roasted and spiced and eaten as a snack.
